How to Simplify Sign-On to AMS Using Network Authentication

If you work for ACF, ACL, AHRQ, OS/PSC, or SAMHSA, you can activate network authentication by completing a one-time setup process. This feature allows you to skip the AMS login page and access AMS and your applications seamlessly after you have logged into the HHS network.

Note: This configuration only works with HHS-issued desktops and laptops and has to be set up on each individual machine.

Regardless of how you log into your machine (e.g., HSPD-12 access card or username and password), when you are accessing an application that requires an HSPD-12 access card for login, such as ITAS, you will be prompted to insert your card to proceed.

  1. To access AMS with the same username and password you use to log into your computer, select your OpDiv from the drop-down list on the "Network Credentials" tab of the AMS login page (https://ams.hhs.gov). For quick and easy access to your applications, add this page to your browser favorites or create a desktop shortcut.

  2. Check the box titled "Use network authentication every time I log into AMS" and click the "Login" button.

Note: Once this box is checked, the "Network Username" and "Network Password" fields will no longer appear. For additional information, click on the "?" icon to be directed to the network authentication FAQ.

  3. From now on, whenever you navigate to the AMS site (https://ams.hhs.gov) after you have logged into the HHS network, you will skip the AMS login page and go directly to your AMS homepage.
